Using Greek Yogurt as a Substitute for Sour Cream

Sour cream has always been a favorite dip, and topping of mine throughout my life. You can use it with tacos, beans, chips, chili (now I'm getting hungry) and a cup of it in Hidden Valley seasoning packets to make veggie dip. Of course, these are just a few uses for this creamy addition to whatever you're eating. Unfortunately, sour cream can really add lots of calories, saturated fat, and cholesterol to your meal. So, I did a little research to figure out what a good substitute would be for it because I really didn't want to cut it out of my diet.

What did I come up with? Greek Nonfat Yogurt! My favorite brand that has a good price for the amount you get and the health benefits of eating a once "naughty" side is Great Value (from Walmart)!!! You get 32 oz for about $5.

Ive compared 1 cup of Greek Yogurt vs 1 cup of Daisy Sour Cream and I couldn't believe how the numbers compared. I want to clarify that I'm comparing 1 cup of sour cream (we probably don't eat THAT much) to get an idea of the two foods' Nutritional Facts. Also, if we're going to town on that veggie dip, made with sour cream, we may get close to eating 1 cup. The way I calculated the sour cream was inputting it into www.Myfitnesspal.com as 16 Tablespoons, which equals 1 cup. I wrote the numbers down side by side to see an easy comparison, so here it is:

Not to mention all of the probiotics yogurt, in general, has to offer. All in all, nothing will ever be as good as sour cream, but Nonfat Greek yogurt (Great Value brand) is the yummiest, closest, healthiest alternative to sour cream, in my opinion! Even my picky husband can't tell the difference :) Thanks for reading!
